Every rose is unique. And every rose conveys a different message, every time. And that message is an expression of the elegance that makes an entire species of flower unique. The message is just about color. It’s a message about a particular type of talent. A sort of vocation, just like that of sunlight which shifts its tonality depending on the time of day. And this is how a polychromy of passions comes into being. These passions are what inspired our new line of wines, Rohesia. A triptych. Red. White. Rosé. No longer just Negroamaro Rosato but now also Malvasia Bianca and Susumaniello. With the launch of these wines, our Rohesia brand is in the spotlight. Its potential is greater than ever and its symbolic roots have now fanned out into three different declinations.
We are launching this line with new packaging. Instead of the Bordelaise bottle with its straight flanks and square shoulders, Rohesia comes in a Burgundian bottle. And the label has been redesigned to be softer and more elegant. The new design is inspired by a fusion of the things that make this South such an extraordinary place in the world. It is a portrait of the true star of this land: The wind intertwined with the wavering landscape between the two seas that surround the byzantine peninsula otherwise known as Italy, our sea-horizon and the other matriarchal landscape, the fertile earth that absorbs and regenerates, vintage after vintage, generation after generation.
Wind, sea, earth. These are the elements that define our land. And this design represents a spiritual passport for the three wines that have been united under the Rohesia label. Our take on this imagery, which appears as the symbol of a label and a new adventure, has renewed our love of life, our passion for our work and for this magical place where every bottle of wine isn’t just a number but a challenge. And above all, it’s the daily practice of researching sensation and beauty.
Rohesia Negroamaro Rosato
The line’s flagship, a wine that is close to ten harvests and wine that has always been well received by critics and wine lovers year after year. The 2019 vintage is fresh and easy to drink but with good structure and its classic coral hue.
Rohesia Malvasia Bianca
This is the truly new wine in this line. We are white wine producers at heart and our passion for white grapes pointed us in the direction of this variety that has always been grown in Salento. In the past some didn’t take it seriously. But we are convinced that it will be a big hit. The 2019 vintage is the first for this aromatic Malvasia Bianca, the perfect wine for the arrival of summer.
Rohesia Susumaniello
Our Susmaniello project didn’t end with the Varius line (I’m sorry to report that Varius has been discontinued). It was an ambitious idea, for all of Salento, to have another native variety (besides Primitivo and Negroamaro). And not just from an ampelographic point of view but also in terms of the region’s rich culture and history. Dalmatian in origin, the name of the grape is inspired by its voluminous productive capacity in its youth (like a donkey or somarello in Italian, laden with cargo), even though as the vines age, they become markedly less productive. For some time, we had been considering making a wine from this historic grape variety which has only recently been rediscovered. Its small berries have a high concentration of polyphenols and anthocyanins. On the nose, the wine delivers classic notes of red fruit, like prune. On the palate, herbal notes and a spicy finish complement those aromas. Intense ruby red in color, smooth but with excellent structure.
